Blaze of Glory
Well maybe not that big - but hey it has been a long time since I have made a post so I needed a title that hopefully is catching your eye so you read my dribble :)
So whats new?
Well the house is still not finished but we have hope that it will be done before the end of this month. All of the local council inspections, bank final inspection and then our final inspection, THEN we can pay for the thing. hehe So long as we get in by xmas then it will all be good.
So we have that still in the works and yeah we were excited the first five times we got "It will be done next week" so at this point we are just waiting for the final word then we can get excited again.
Umm the work front, I have moved from a two year contract over to a permanent permanent, which means that it is a normal job now ;-) Same everything as before but I can't be ousted so easily, which is good because of my smart mouth ;-)
I grow older today reaching that nice old age of 29, the last of my 20's :) So this should be a bang up year! I hope to have lots of tails of adventure posted here for the last huuurah! Of course then I will spend my 30's showing you all that I still have the 20's spirit hehe a never ending cycle.
And finally out to all the people who take time to read this dribble. Thanks for being good friends. all it takes usually to get me to come out and see you is a simple planting of the seed in my mind "Heya man, when you coming out to see me?" that kind of thing gets my brain working like a c++ function "Question of Date Entered" Processing "Date Returned" sort of thing :)
Also! Just to keep the readers pining for more, there is a secret works in the making! Only a few know of its full extent so keep turned for "More tales of Dribble!"

Camping and Anniversary Trip. With the anger of the sea
Well we are back from our weekend and two days of holidays (4 days total for you slow folk out there).
So the first event we had was going camping with Kasey's family to one of her dad's friends places. They have a property which is right next to this very nice river and a camp was setup. We went up on a friday and left sunday morning.
Things were good, good company, booze, and food. Fun for all! Kasey bought for us this little two man tent which is about the size of my computer. ;-) She also got for us an inflatable bed which as luck would have it is exactly the same size as the floor of the two man tent! So our whole tent was cushioned. How many of you out there have a tent like that eh? Besides that it was very 'cozy' and was fine for the two of us but I wouldn't want to take it on a long trek because it also did the following; leaked, didn't keep out any bugs besides monster/mutated sized bugs, a dog was able to force its way past the zippers into the tent with its nose, and finally had small holes to allow ground cridders in. Still! It was very comfortable and we slept quite well.
Then on sunday morning we headed off for our anniversary trip. Kasey lined up a nice place in Byron Bay. Its a very nice little town, very big with the tourists especially people backpacking from overseas.
Sunday: Showed up and were a bit tired from all the camping stuff so we cleaned up and headed into town for a little poking around and beer. We ended up visiting a few pubs and having small snacks along the way. We have been to Byron before but I always forget how MANY hippies are in the town :) Good natured people of course but vague as hell! Wandering in front of my car while driving and you all know how I drive, one hand on the wheel and the other out the window ready to give someone the finger. Anyhow, the first evening was good and relaxing.
The second day (Monday) we headed out to the beach only to find a storm rolled in behind us as we were walking! DOH! Before it kicked in we saw probably about twenty beached jelly fish and these were not small let me tell you! The biggest one was about the size of my chest and shoulders and about twice as deep. It was a shame we didn't have any cameras with us. So after the big jelly fish exhibition we headed back into the safety of the B&B while the storm blew out. Later that day we went for a big swim in the ocean (yes even through there were beached jelly fish) and man was it cold!! We then went back to our little spot (it was just us and one other person on the whole area ;-) ) and built sand castles. Mine in the end was destroyed by a lumbering giant (me). Later we had Thai food (Damn that stuff is great!) and then it was off to the Light House and the gulling pathway that leads fro it down to the most Easterly point in Australia. Pretty cool :) Lastly we went to dinner late that night where we had very swanky food and wine. Sometimes you have to live it up!
Tuesday (today) we checked out of the B&B and went to a dive shop where we got suited up for a snorkeling trip. It was a bit of a ride out to the island that we would be swimming at and the water was cold but it was good to start with. We saw two ocean turtles ( whoa dude) and it was very cool to swim along with them. However, the wind kept picking up and the sea was not happy.... We were close to these two rocks where there was a channel of water between them. We were told there was tons of fish and interesting things around there so of course I went to look! The ocean grabbed me in a large current and dragged me between the two rocks into a nice swirling pool between them. To start with I was fighting the current but I felt my hand smash against a rock and decided to go limp and wait for my chance to escape. Twice the current came in swirling around knocking me into the rocks cutting my back, right hip and damaging my finger tips which were outstretched to try and prevent head damage. On the second surge I got my chance. The water rushed out and I kicked and clawed like a mad man. I shot out of there like a bullet and back out into the larger and calmer area. Weeeeeeeeeee :-D
After a bit of water regurgitation and checking the vital bits of the body, head and family jewels, I decided everything was groovy and man what a stupid/interesting story I would have. After that the water became more and more fierce, string up all kinds of crap in the water so it was very hard to see anything. We did see two small sharks though called Wobbegong Sharks. Fairly harmless since they are so small and are not really concerted with humans. We watched one eating something inside a hole :) very cool! After awhile we gave up and came back to the boat because the ocean was too choppy to see or swim. On the way back we did sight a glimps of a family of whales moving along the coast line. very cool!
We came back today exhausted but much fun was had.
I will post pictures later this week once we get the batteries charged for it again.

House development
On out way back from the markets we went by the house and noticed they had people working so were unable to go inside. I did snappy a picture with my mobile just to show some of the developments.

It looks almost like it did before but note the garage is installed, the driveway is getting ready to be poured and the roof is completed.
Also, as we drove by the final plastering is done (the paint might have been done as well but we couldn't tell), the staircase was in and things seemed near completion! :D
We still hope that the finishing date of the end of this month is holding. If so we could be moving in as early as the 1st or 2nd week of October.

Pho Pho Pho
There is a great Vietnamese place down the road from us which just opened a few weeks ago. The first trip there was awesome! The place is called Chic Chi Pho.
We had beef with lemon grass , and roast duck. Man is that stuff tasty!!
Last night we went back for another round, and Kasey went with the Pho (which is Vietnamese flat rice noodle soup) and I decided to give the Vietnamese curry a try since I didn't even know they had a curry!
Mine was decent, very mild and since I like hot curry (fire!!!) it was just so-so for me. Kasey's Pho though smelled and tasted aaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwesome! I would recommend everyone try and find a good restaurant for this kind of food and give it a shot.

Weekend house visit
Hello folks!
Well we had our meeting with the real estate agent as well as the builder of the town houses. Things are shaping up nicely! The interior plaster board is up and the insulation is installed. The final pastering is slated to happen this week and we have a hopeful completion date of late this month (if we don't get any more rain!)
Here is the list of things to be completed.
We have a few things we are going to install as soon as it is completed as well.
So things keep trucking along and we hope the place will be completed by the end of September and to be moved in and settled by mid October.

Update time
I figured since it has been awhile I should send out an update about how things are going here. Basically we had a problem with the bank we were going through and had to hot foot it to another bank! Thankfully Kasey's dad Peter sorted it all out for us since we were in a pinch for time. With his help, and Kasey's constant inquires to how things were going we got approval today! They are sending the letter out so all is well on the finance front.
The house has a few small changes but nothing massive as we had a large bout of rain last week and I don't think anything got done. But the builder has setup a meeting with us to pick out a few things and to show him what color paint we want to use. We can then hit him up for a lot of specifics like ETA and stuff.
Besides that Kasey and I are both working a lot now! She is working full time while school is out and I am working about 6-15 hours of OT a week. It will all help pay for the initial move in costs like washer/dry etc.
We are both really looking forward to getting out of our current place and finally be paying into something of our own.

Our first house
Hello everyone!
Well good news, we have purchased a new home here in Brisbane, Australia. While it is a townhouse it is at a great location (you know what they say, Location, Location, Location!) and looking at rent prices and how much growth happens around here we are confident the investment will go well :)
So here are the specs.
Insulation in all the walls, ext and interior. High grade stuff - Rockwool which acts as an insulator and a sound dampener.
Upstairs:
2 Bedroom
- Master bedroom has a balcony
1 Bathroom
1 Study
Downstairs:
1 Toilet
1 Kitchen with gas oven, living room etc
Outside:
Large tree
Small area for a 4 set table
Fenced off with a locked gate.
Things near by:
Train Station - 4 blocks
Main Artery Road - Two streets away
Grocery Store and shops - 6-7 blocks
Pub/Bar - We are not sure the exact location but guestimate of about 4-6 blocks away (Walking distance)
We want to talk to the builder about getting network cable run before it is completed as well as giving us an access door under the stairs. We want to install a nice wine storage area under there :)
Here is a link to show where we currently live vs where we are moving. Map
I will get some pictures of it online once we get a chance to go out again.

Value of blood
Yes yes the USA Trip blog is coming as soon as I can get all the pics organized ;p
Well I got a bit of mail yesterday which surprised me. I gave blood about a month ago and my blood donor card arrived. It seems I am O- blood type! Which means three very important things.
1) I am a universal donor which means anyone of any blood type can take my blood, even the really rare blood types like AB- so it's pretty important I keep giving blood. doh, moral obligation!
2) I can only receive blood from other O- peps! DOH! Luckily there is 9% of the population in ozzie land with this blood type so all "should" be okay ;p
3) Now, since the blood I give anyone can receive that releases me from other obligations! You know like politics and shit like that :D I can now sleep soundly ignoring the world around me because my blood is out there saving heaps peps, you know, keeping those voters showing up to the booths and posting their rants on the web about how things are messed up ;p . So my contribution to humanity will be blood. Hahaha I win
Now I can ignore all the meat bags that are not friends and family and just concentrate on animals :)

Baseball, BBQ and all the goodness
We have been back in the USA for 5 days now and we have done quite a bit!
After visiting with the folks for two days we picked up Peter and the following day had a really good BBQ here at the house. We had good fun taking Kasey and Peter around to all the big commercial spots like Walmart, Sams Club etc. The price of beer and booze here still even amazes me! So we had a good long BBQ and got to meet up with the locals here in YC :)
Yesterday we went to Old Sacramento, hit up an Irish Pub (as you do ;p) and from there went to the train and war museums which is quite fun. Those trains are huge! After the trek around Old Sac we went to a River Cats Baseball game. It was great fun, it has been a long long time since going to a baseball game and even though the Rivercats lost it was still a ton of fun.
Today we are making our way to Chico to visit Sierra Nevada and do the whole brewery tour. From there we will just hang out till its bar time! :D

DOH!
Unfortunately the price and discussion with the agent was only about the LAND for the area, the house costs extra.
Well... I guess next time we want a home and land package we will have to be explicit in that the price contains a house as well ;-)
That is to say, we were very happy to pay the land price when we thought there was a house on it hehe wonder if we can get a shack built for 30k!

Home home everywhere!
Well everything is coming together quickly!
The trip to the USA is only a four days away and we have a lot of things coming together quite quickly.
We are going to meet with an agent about this land and home package (what they call it here for a new house), out in a really forest-y area, it is two blocks from a train station and is close to a major road! So that lands all of our requirements and its a new home! We won't have to worry about building, pests etc inspections since it will all be under contract. So, yes, everything is happening this Saturday. If we are happy with the property we are gonna give the big thumbs up to the agent and then start hammering away on the loan guys to it all finalized. Of course this is all happening the day before we leave for the USA, so I imagine I am gonna be still doing it while on holidays ;P
Ahh and the block is a massive 836 SQ Yards (or 1000 sq meters) which is f***-tastic because of how close it is to the CBD. It also means in the future we can split the lot and build to houses then sell them as individual lots or build a small block of flats on them and sell them off individually for a good amount of bling bling.
And of course we have the trip to the USA which Kasey and I are looking forward to a great deal! It will be just over two and half years (I think..) since I have been home so it will be good to see everyone and visit :)
Nothing else really to report, I am doing ITIL training all this week which is a bit of a pain but will look good on the ole CV (Resume for US folks).
See a lot of you soon!

Belgium Beer Gooooood
Kasey has finished her thesis (YAAAA!!!) and to celebrate we went out to the Belgium Beer Garden which has a very swanky restaurant attached to it and very nice beers.
We has to get the most expensive beer of course since it was a big celebration so we got this beer here :)

Web Update
G'day all :)
Lately I have been hacking and configuring away on a few new projects I have been working on. One of them is LovablePets.org which I am becoming proud of. The system is working great I think, and is starting to feel like a real professional website.
Comments? Suggestions? Try using it if you have time or even post something! :D

Car Photos
Well here are a few snaps on the car in our car port. Please ignore the old bed, we just don't care enough to move it out ;-)

My Dad also gave me a test for checking if the clutch is slipping and if the engine is sound (a rough test). So on our way to the markets I started out in first gear then kicked it into fourth and floored it, the little trooper picked up speed! Kick ass.

Viva la travel!
If my spanish wasn't so crap I would know what travel was ;p
Well this morning we have gotten up at 6:30am in the morning on a saturday to drive to a huge market held out in the middle of no where. We are doing this because previous to having the car (which is fully legal with plates!!) we failed at trying to get to it with public transport.
So this morning we are gonna drive there, a small victory but just one of the many things which we can now do. The way I figure it, we tried living without a car for two years and the public transport failed us. SO out with the gas emissions! :-D and you know with a little 1.5L car from 1997 we are some polutors and a-half.
Well off to the markets!

Car - Almost a reality!
Well the mechanics have had their way with the vehicle and it is now certified Road Worthy (which is required by law) and thankfully only has to be done ONCE for the lifetime of registration :) Today I will go down and get it registered and get the plates and we are set!
Then we can go to the coast on the weekend (45 min drive) or up into the hinterlands (45 min drive) or even just to the grocery store! WOOT! I think it was a bit idealist to think that here would-be or CAN-BE like japan as far as public transport... So we now have a car :) Here is the breakdown total for the car.
2700 at auction
40 to fill up the gas tank
300 insurance for a year
570 for safety work which was required and inspection
50 for registration for a year
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3660 AUD not bad in my opinion for a decent little car ;-)

G'Day
Holas to everyone!
Few things on the books for day just want to let everyone know I have changed the default permissions on this Blog so anyone can post, even if your not signed up. So comment away if you have free time or just like hurling abuse.
Other things I am up to? I have gotten into Fair Trade coffee lately, if you love coffee I think its worth spending the time to check it out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_trade which basically means you pay a few extra bucks for that pound of coffee and the farmers of the 3rd world countries get the cash and not the supermarkets and the coffee shops. And since I love pissing in peoples shoes I am more then happy to fork out an extra few bucks so some fat cats miss out.
Speaking of cats, some of you might have noticed the link on the right there? www.lovablepets.org? Its a new project I am doing to see if I can get a website to take off. I am about.... 40% done at the moment but hope to have a good amount of content updated shortly.

Auction...... SOLD!
Well we have acquired a 1997 Ford Festiva for 2700 AUD at the auction this morning :-) We payed the 500 buck deposit and now need to get it registered and safety inspected. So rounding up the whole package is gonna cost us only 3k!
Auction was high energy for sure! The cars were driven in front of us and then the bidding started. I swear it only lasted a few minutes for each auction to take place. The car we got was the 2nd one I bid on! heheh They had some messed up cars there that went for 200 bucks, and obviously we avoided that stuff.
Yes we know it is a decade old but hey if it lasts for 3 years I will be very happy! :) Cheaper then renting that is for sure.

Charging Ahead
It's all coming together lately. Tomorrow we will go to the car auction place and see if we can't score a pile of nuts and bolts to drive us around (pic will be coming if we do) as well as finishing off the home loan applications. Once all that is sorted we are in the clear for house hunting!
Say goodbye to our weekends! haha
The houses we are looking at are between 600-1000 Sq Meters which is a decent size for around the city area. One of the strange things about ozzie land is all the windows are single pane! That is going to be one of the first things I try and get changed once we find a place; get rid of that single pane crap and get some good solid double or triple pane windows in there :D Sound proof as much as I can hehe
Ah! I also hope to get a bicycle this weekend and start riding to work. We will be in our apt for a few more months so why not ride :)

SF
Well the San Francisco bit of the trip is coming together! The Hotel is booked and I am looking into the wine tour to see if they can pick us up at the hotel :)
Now thats living! Having someone pick you up at the hotel and drive you around different booze spots. Ahhh the good life.

Weekend geekness
Well another weekend is here and this one looks like it is going to be quite. Probably going to to be trudging through the net looking for bargains and such for the one/two new computers we are going to be building soon!
Score!
Might be enough parts left over to build a cut down linux server which will be very nice if we can get that going!

Car
Auction Time!
We are going to a car auction this morning. If all goes well then we should have a nice car secure for not as much cash as we would spend at a dealer. What makes us think this is good stuff is that dealers come to this auction to buy their cars (some of them)! So we can skip the dealer car wash and hopefully save a small pile of cash.
